Dear Friends,
In North Carolina, March Madness can mean many things. Basketball fans know the craze, and our excitement naturally builds as we await the results to find out who will have bragging rights.
The seasonal change happening now can also bring a little madness (in like a lion and out like a lamb, as they say). As spring starts to emerge, we may also experience ice storms (no jinx), weighing down our flowering trees. It’s not unheard of to have a spring allergy flair up and a final winter cold in the same week!
In Ayurveda this is kapha season. Cold and wet, making way for growth, the energy of the season is heavy. It’s why spring allergies manifest symptoms of thick mucus and often give way to lung infections like bronchitis. If we aren’t helping heavy kapha energy move, it gets stuck.
Did you know that all of this is optional? Personally, I experience fewer allergy symptoms each year. When I get a cold, I know how to tend myself back to health quickly. I use my daily habits and food as medicine to keep me well. I work with the wisdom of nature to guide my choices, which is especially helpful as the seasons change.
Ayurveda provides seasonal guidelines for this time of year, with simple food-based routines that will help you detox and transition into Spring. Carrots, kohlrabi, radishes, lettuce, spinach, chard, turnips and more are all fresh and locally grown at this time of year. They also fight mucus production. Coincidence? No way! Nature is so intelligent in guiding us to what we need to be vibrantly healthy in every season. We just have to follow her lead.
Would you like to learn to follow nature’s lead, too? Join us for our annual Spring Nutrition Reset. This 3-week program will help you get and stay healthy as the seasons change. In this short course I’ll teach you everything you need to know about Ayurvedic nutrition basics. You’ll receive group support while you build a plan to nourish and balance you through this season (and all year long). The course starts on March 18. And the best part? You can bring a friend for free!
