Over Memorial Day weekend, we just hit our second series of 90+ degree days. The kids are getting out of school and you’ve got their whole summer planned. So what are you going to do? A week at the beach? Work as usual?
I’ve got a different idea for you: Ayurveda Summer Camp.
Today and over the next few weeks I’m sending you some fun-in-the sun suggestions to keep you cool and make it easy to put your care first. WHAT? Yes, you first. The kids are set, let’s explore all the things that could be possible when you set your own care as top priority.
Summer ayurveda takes seasonal changes into consideration since what is happening in our environment affects how we feel. In the summer heat you are likely to feel hot, overexerted, critical, short-tempered, and flushed. Food and beverages that are spicy, fermented, or sour exacerbate these symptoms.
When I head to the beach for a HOT weekend, I’m looking for delicious mocktails I can sip all day in the sun that will counteract the heat. Here are two of my favorites you can enjoy all summer long.
Cucumber Mint Limeade
Muddle together 1 tsp. sugar in the raw or stevia
Juice of ½ lime (about 1 tablespoon)
Several ribbons of cucumber (cut with a peeler)
2-4 Mint leaves
Add to a glass with unsweetened cucumber or lime flavored soda water or filtered still water.
Celery Cilantro Mocktail
Muddle or blend:
1 Stalk of Celery
3 tablespoons fresh squeezed lime juice
Natural sweetener to taste
¼ c. chopped cilantro
(add a small amount of water if blending)
Strain the above, add to soda water or filtered water and garnish with lime and celery leaves.
